ABOUT THE ADOS-2 SCREENING

  • It is considered the gold standard of Autism screening when combined with a specialist consult (such as a child psychiatrist, pediatric neurologist or developmental pediatrician)

  • It can only be conducted by trained medical professionals

  • There are only a small number of therapists in South Africa who are able to provide this service

  • This is an objective observation conducted by a team, which provides information about the likelihood that a child may have Autism, as well as a holistic overview of a child's strengths and areas of need within the Spectrum.

  • It can be used to identify goals and better understand the clinical profile in children who already have an autism diagnosis

    • A written report summarizing findings

    • Recommendations for specialists to visit for diagnosis
